Connections are made on the dance floor each year Christ United Methodist Church holds its Daddy/Daughter Dance.
“I’m not great at the Electric Slide – I’m more of a Bunny Hop kind of guy – but I’m working on it,” said Matt Robinson, who has attended the dance eight times with his youngest daughter, Abigail. The father of all girls said attending the dance has enhanced his relationship with her through connections and commitment.
Each year, Robinson said, the dancing stops for a moment and it becomes about the emotional bond between the family members. There are often moments when the girls talk to their fathers on a deeper level. And that’s when the real connection is made.
As Abigail, who is now 11 years old, matures, the importance of that bond only increases.
“It’s so important for a father to have a strong, active role in his daughter’s life,” Robinson said.
Besides the strong connections made, the evening is also about fun.
“The girls really enjoy it, and the moms at the church do a great job at setting everything up. Really, the dads just have to show up,” Robinson said with a laugh.
Children’s Ministry Director MaryBeth Hammett, who is in charge of the event, said due to limited space, the event is first come, first served.
“It’s a formal theme this year, and it’s great seeing how excited the girls get because they get to dress up,” said Hammett.
The evening costs $25/family, with dinner included, and is being held Friday, Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the church’s commons area. Tickets and more information are available at Christ Church, 8645 East Brainerd Road, and online at christchurchchatt.org.
