Eat Fresh
Behind my former Southside duplex, I planted a small veggie plot with the hope that I could start skipping the produce section on my weekly grocery shops. I was so enamored with the idea of not only eating fresh but eating food from my own backyard, I tried two years in a row – rather unsuccessfully.
I was ultimately able to harvest a single squash too small to serve as a side for even one person.
I then set my sights on the weekly farmers market near my home, sourcing seasonal ingredients that were often unfamiliar to me and then fashioning a meal in the style of “Iron Chef.” Nothing made it into my permanent rotation, if that tells you anything.
I now have a new plan: to sign up for a CSA that offers the fresh, locally sourced foods I crave alongside recipes to help me truly make the most of them.
