Vote for Trump to save country
There have always been candidates for political office who initiated frowns, shock and disappointment from even their most ardent supporters. But until now, no candidate has had to withstand such vitriol from his own party. Such is now the case with the “Republican establishment,” meaning those entrenched government employees who will keep their expensive homes in Bel Air and Georgetown regardless of who wins. But there is one exception: Donald Trump would require conservative allegiance, or they’d need to update their resumes. This is as it should be.
Is Trump the perfect candidate? Of course not; he has a few flaws, as do we all. But the alternative is a woman who will end the Second Amendment, open our borders to unvetted and dangerous criminals, tax us unmercifully, gut our military and establish a socialistic one-party system of rule by “the state.”
She sold out our country to her Clinton Foundation donors, a slush fund which was ignored by the mainstream media. She must be stopped. Donald Trump will lead us back to the country of which we were once proud. Vote Trump.

Congressional fix needed on taxes
Before The Donald’s “it’s just locker room talk” episode, Americans were reeling over what he called his “brilliance” in avoiding paying taxes for years. Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Gov. Chris Christie have called his income tax avoidance evidence of Trump’s “genius.”
Apparently, Trump’s tax attorneys used legal loopholes buried in the tax code that favor the ultra-rich. Surely other elite-but-less-in-the-public-eye Americans – the so-called 1 percenters – use the same or similar tax breaks that favor them, tax breaks that compensate them for loses that apparently don’t affect their lifestyles one iota.
Such loopholes have been added over the years by Congresses made up of members from both parties. Congress has passed and presidents have signed tax legislation that favors those with the deepest of pockets and placed a greater burden on the hard-pressed, shrinking middle class.
It seems both candidates will continue the mumbo-jumbo that favors the wealthiest and victimizes average citizens. Perhaps our bolder representatives and senators will address this issue.

Honoring vets starts with VA action
Wal-Mart and other organizations want us to put a green light in our window to show support for our veterans on Veterans Day.
Many don’t know that veterans get a discount on most purchases at Lowe’s, Home Depot and other stores. If I wear my retired hat, I frequently get doors held open and “thank you for your service” comments.
Once at the Sunday Market I even got a free bag of popcorn. And there are murals, flags, crosses and other remembrances all over this town.
Real support for our troops is not in displays of things. Real support is action. Did you not just read about the new failures at the Phoenix VA hospital? That’s just another tip of the iceberg. How many other facilities are quietly operating with minimal service, allowing veterans to go untreated and die? You really want to support our troops? Then call, write or visit your member of Congress, senator and the president and demand that these VA facilities be brought into line. Don’t do it just once, but keep on until all services are improved.
