The Chattanooga State baseball team lifted Greg Dennis past 1,000 wins as a junior college head coach Wednesday with a 12-0, 7 -2 sweep of the visiting King University junior varsity.
The Tigers’ program-record 24th consecutive victory made them 39-9 this season and Dennis 1,001-724 in 33 years at Collin County in Texas and Chatt State, where he is 653-309 with a No. 1 national ranking for three weeks in 2007 and a Junior College World Series appearance in 2010.
The former Notre Dame High School star’s coaching success “is a testimony to the talent and persistence of a lot of good players and a lot of good assistant coaches,” he said.
Trevor Cumberland (7-1) and Joey Willis were the winning pitchers Wednesday, and Cam Grimes homered among three hits and batted in five runs.
