Hiwassee College announces the establishment of a dental hygiene program.
Hiwassee is providing space for offices, classrooms, a laboratory and a clinic.
The college received a Congressionally directed grant from the U.S. Department of Education to cover the initial cost of the accreditation process established by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. The grant also covered the cost of supplying the clinic with state-of-the-art dental equipment.
The next step is to raise $100,000 by July 15, to cover the costs of remodeling and preparing the facilities. The college has launched “Something to Sink Your Teeth In” fundraising campaign to pursue that goal.
