On July 16, 2015, Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services responder Capt. John Miller responded to what many would consider the unthinkable: A terrorist attack in his own town.
Through his leadership in a time of turmoil, he earned the Hamilton County Paramedic of the Year Award. But if you ask him, it wasn’t about his personal response. It was about the hard work and skills of his team.
His supervisors knew that would be his answer, and were quick to follow up with another.
“He’s the kind of guy who will tell you he doesn’t deserve the award, but I will tell you he did. He’s incredibly humble. I was on that scene with him,” said HCEMS support specialist Bob Williams.
“It’s certainly an honor,” Miller said. But as the shift supervisor, he was simply doing his job; doing what he has trained to do for 25 years since joining HCEMS.
