Toasting 2016: New Year’s Eve drinks and party tips to make you a fizz whiz
Signature drinks, those original cocktails unique to your party, are a great way to make an event memorable.
Following are some original concoctions suggested by local bartenders and businesses.
Simple kick
From Marcelo Nascimento, bar manager at The Honest Pint:
“Entertaining is about simplicity so you can enjoy your own party. The Cameron’s Kick is our most popular classic cocktail and perfect for a party. At its core it’s a whiskey sour elevated with a mild and fruity Irish whiskey, and Scotch whisky for a touch of smoke. Orgeat is an emulsion made from almonds that is sweet, nutty and slightly floral. We make our own at Honest Pint, but liquor stores and some specialty stores will have it for purchase.”
Cameron’s Kick
3/4 ounce Jameson Irish Whiskey or similar
3/4 ounce Grant’s Blended Scotch Whisky or similar
3/4 ounce orgeat
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
Garnish with 2 dashes of Angostura bitters and a lemon peel
In a shaker, combine all ingredients and top with ice. Shake and strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice. Garnish by adding two dashes of Angostura bitters to the top and finish with a lemon peel.
Popularity x 2
From Marcelo Nascimento, bar manager at Honest Pint
“In keeping with our beer-and-shot popularity, we created a duality of our most popular. Not Your Father’s Root Beer has become a phenomenon and it’s even better with whipped Irish cream on top. We make our own Irish cream then whip it to use as a floater on top of the root beer to mimic the head from a Guinness. Root beer float for adults.”
Honey I Shrunk My Guinness
3 ounces Small Town Not Your Father’s Root Beer or similar
1 small scoop of vanilla ice scream
Whipped Irish cream
In a shot glass, add Not Your Father’s Root Beer, float ice cream, then float whipped Irish cream.
Curing the blues
From Ace Overton, bartender at Puckett’s
“Don’t let winter give you the blues. Our take on this classic cocktail is a better solution. Locally produced Corsair Ryemaddedon Whiskey, fresh blueberries and brown sugar simple syrup will make you happy to have these blues.”
