It’s not particularly surprising that Democrats are having trouble fielding candidates in North Georgia. What’s surprising is that some of the dwindling numbers of Democrats in the area seem mystified by that.
As reported by the Times Free Press, no Democrats are on the July 31 primary ballot for local offices in Catoosa County, Ga., for the first time that perhaps anybody can recall. The story is virtually the same in Dade, Walker and Whitfield counties.
And why wouldn’t it be?
Democrats contend that they haven’t really moved politically in recent years and decades, and for quite a few Democrats at the local level, that may be true.
But when they assume that party badge, they saddle themselves with the positions of President Barack Obama and other Democrats at the national level — Democrats who most assuredly have dragged their party leftward.
