Local group Medley of Joy is prepping for its second annual In Memory of Aaron Morgan Benefit Concert, being held Saturday, Nov. 12 from 5-8 p.m. The bluegrass gospel band is performing in The Spring building at Rock Spring United Methodist Church.
Entry costs $5 per person for those age 11 and older, and free for younger children.
All proceeds will help support the fledgling “snack pack program” at Rock Spring Elementary School, of which RSUMC is a primary sponsor. The program began a year ago to help ensure every student has enough to eat over the weekend when school breakfasts and lunches aren’t an option.
“In 2015, the Rock Spring Elementary School snack pack program fed 60 children and this year it will feed more than 100 children every weekend of the school year,” said Medley of Joy communication coordinator Anne Medley. “The 2015 benefit raised $2,000. This year’s goal is to raise $4,000 toward the snack packs.”
Food from Bob’s Brick Oven will be available for purchase at the benefit.
Medley of Joy – comprised of the Medley family and friends and fellow RSUMC church members – can often be found performing around town for various causes.
