Manhunt places two area schools on lockdown

Walker Valley High School and Charleston Elementary School were placed on lockdown Monday morning due to a manhunt.

The precaution was taken because Bradley and McMinn deputies along with Tennessee Highway Patrol units were searching the area near the schools for a suspect, according to officials with the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.

The manhunt started Monday morning after state troopers chased a vehicle on I-75 until it crashed near Exit 36 and four people left the car and ran into a wooded area, according to the sheriff’s office.

Three of the four suspects were in custody as of press time, according to a news release.

The one subject still at large is a black male. He was wearing a toboggan and all-black clothing, the release said.
