After getting underway with more than 70 bouts in four rings Monday night, the USA Boxing Eastern Elite Qualifier and Regional Open Championships quickly got down to the business of determining champions Tuesday at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
The Elite men’s and women’s finals will be held Saturday night – the only time all week that admission will be charged – but the multiple divisions and weight classes for ages 18 and below will be decided before then. There were 35 determined Tuesday, according to a release from USA Boxing, including all the female categories besides Elite.
Eighteen champions were declared without opposition, including 13 of the females: Fallon Farrar of Raeford, N.C., in the Elite 178-pound class; Citlalli Ortiz of Coachella, Calif. (152) and Dayana Torres of Houston (119) in Youth; Kym Colbert of Toledo, Ohio, at Junior 154; Esmeralda Velasquez Ortiz of Georgetown, Texas (154), Ruby Navarro of Misson, Texas (132), Kayla Gomez of El Paso (95), Faith Mendez of Reading, Pa. (110) and Hailey Cancel of Hudson, Mass. (90) in Intermediate; Jadah Robinson of Troy, N.Y. (125) and Tee Hale of Dothan, Ala. (75) in Bantam; and Gloria Ibarra of San Antonio (95) and Dymond Hardaway of LaGrange, Ga. (70) in Pee Wee 9-10.
Unopposed male champs were Deandre Madison of Detroit (176) in Intermediate, Joseph Miranda of Delavan, Wis. (125) and Ashton Jackson of Jackon, Miss. (114) in Bantam, Chavez Adrian of Fairburn, Ga., (80) in Pee Wee 9-10 and Michael O’Conner of Foxborough, Mass. (65) in Pee Wee 8.
The Youth Division is ages 17-18, the Junior is 15-16, the Intermediate is 13-14 and the Bantam is 11-12.

Chattanooga, the host city, was represented by a couple of winners in the evening session Tuesday: Michael Dawson with a 5-0 decision at Junior 106 against Fernando Vasquez of Dallas and Keyvon Long with a walkover at Junior 119. Cory Simon of Chattanooga was a first-round TKO victim of Miguel Hernandez of Dallas at Elite 165.
Chattanoogans Marcus Hyatt at Bantam 60 and Zaqui George at Pee Wee 60 lost 5-0 in the afternoon session to Jason Esparza of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Javon Robinson of Oxford, Pa., respectively.
