The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team had a pair of players honored by the Southern Conference on Monday. Linebacker Ryan Consiglio and punter Mike Hammons earned player of the week honors for their performances in last Saturday’s 21-17 loss at No. 6 Jacksonville State.
Consiglio made a career-high 14 tackles and intercepted a pass to earn the defensive player of the week nod for the second time in the junior’s career.
Hammons, also a junior, punted three times against the Gamecocks and averaged 47.0 yards per kick. Two of his punts ended up at the JSU 3-yard line.
The special teams player of the week honor is the second of Hammons’ career, as well. Coincidentally, the first for both Consiglio and Hammons came against Presbyterian last season.
The Mocs (0-2) will try to pick up their first win of the season Saturday (6 p.m.) when they host Eastern Kentucky (0-2) at Finley Stadium.
