To curve or not to curve?
Whether you should buy a curved screen is one question you might ask yourself if you’re in the market for a new computer monitor.
Most experts dismiss curved TVs, which Samsung introduced in mainstream models in 2014, as a gimmick that’s not worth the extra expense over a flatscreen.
Downsides of a curved-screen TV include that the curve exaggerates reflections – sort of like a fun-house mirror – that detract from the viewing experience. You have to get your room’s lighting just right.
The main objection to curved TVs is that there’s only one optimal viewing position, or “sweet spot.” You have to be in just the right spot – which doesn’t work if a roomful of people are watching the big game.
