KNOXVILLE – The Tennessee women have struggled shooting the basketball this season, especially from long range.
They have taken a step to try to remedy that problem in future seasons.
Jessie Rennie, a 5-foot-8 shooting guard from Kangaroo Flat, Australia, has committed to the Lady Volunteers, according to a tweet by Samantha Tomlinson, director of Aussie Basketball USA. That organization helps Australian student-athletes find college scholarship opportunities in the United States, according to its website.
Rennie is expected to sign next month, joining the Lady Vols’ 2019 class that already includes guard Jordan Horston, forward Tamari Key and center Emily Saunders, with those three having signed in November.
A look at Rennie’s highlight videos suggest she’s a solid shooter, and her addition will help in an area of need for the Lady Vols. Tennessee ranks 115th nationally and sixth in the Southeastern Conference in 3-point shooting at 32.7 percent, a figure that dipped to 29.8 in SEC games. Meme Jackson, the team’s leader in 3-pointers made this season with 52, is a senior.
