NO. 6 UTC (4-1, 2-0 SoCon) at VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE (1-5, 0-2)
1:30 p.m. > Foster Stadium, Lexington, Va. > ESPN3/96.1 FM
THE MATCHUP
VMI is the type of team that defensive backfields dream of facing, because of the Keydets’ desire to throw the ball as much as possible. They average over 40 passes per game and 24 completions, but quarterback Al Cobb has thrown a nation-leading 13 interceptions. It would be a surprise if the UTC defense didn’t get at least one opportunity to make a play in the secondary.
ONE TO WATCH
With the Keydets almost assuredly paying extra attention to UTC defensive end Keionta Davis, this could be a game in which senior Toyvian Brand and junior Vantrel McMillan get one-on-one opportunities to rush the passer. Each has had standout games this season, and one – if not both – will get chances this afternoon as well.
IN THE END
VMI will throw the ball a lot and will try to confuse the Mocs on offense with a number of odd fronts. Neither will work, and the visitors will get a big win. The biggest loser here might be the UTC passing attack, which won’t get extended opportunities: After a fairly close first half, the Mocs will pull away in the third quarter and bleed the clock away for their 10th consecutive Southern Conference win.
PREDICTION
Mocs 41, VMI 7
