A 911 call was made at 6:30 p.m. reporting a kitchen fire at 1009 Kenny Way in Hixson, according to fire officials.
Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene reporting smoke and fire in the kitchen. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to the kitchen.
Three teenagers were cooking hush puppies on the stove when the eye of the stove caught fire. One of the teenagers threw water on the grease fire trying to extinguish it but instead spread the fire to the cabinets and curtains, said Dallas Bay VFD Chief Markus Fritts.
No injuries were reported but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries to the firefighters. Damages are listed at $10,000.
The American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide temporary housing for this family.
