A Smooth Groove for teens this afternoon will precede a Love Groove for adults tonight at Loose Cannon Gallery, 1800 Rossville Ave. Both events are sponsored by Rhyme N Chatt, an interactive poetry organization.
Tickets may be reserved for either by calling 544-1597 or 504-0361. For more information, visit www.rhymenchattpoetry.org.
* Smooth Groove features poetry, song and dance “for the sophisticated teen,” according to a news release. This is the second teen-focused event sponsored by RNC and is part of the organization’s mission “to bring people together in a fun, friendly atmosphere to showcase their talent in a positive way.”
Teens are encouraged to attend and get involved. “Anyone in the audience can step to the mike with a song, dance, poem or instrumental piece. As long as it’s positive, the stage will be yours.”
Featured performers are 4Js, Sincere, Alicia Love, Marcus & Blake and a jazz band.
Doors open at 3:30 p.m., and the show starts at 4. Admission is $5.
* Love Groove, “for grown folk,” is a poetry and jazz event held annually since 2001.
“The music is on point, the poetry is spicy (but not too spicy), the atmosphere is warm, the food (catered by Truth & Light Catering) is divine, and all we need to make the night complete is you.”
Pure Sound, which performs a range of musical styles, will entertain. Organizers say the event is enjoyable for people who think they don’t like poetry or jazz.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8. Tickets are $20.
