Not many people have run a 50-mile ultra marathon and lived to tell the tale. Driven by his love to push himself, new local John Leaver pushed his way through the North Face Endurance Challenge in 2013. While busy working as the General Sales Manager of Crown Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram FIAT, he still finds time to experience all Chattanooga has to offer with his wife and son. Though an injury from the race has limited his running abilities, he continues to improve his physical strength and indulge in new outdoor adventures.
What does a day in the life of John Leaver look like?
I’m up early and at the gym by 4:30-ish. I’m into work before anyone else. I read the Bible, have my quiet time, and prepare for the day. At 8:50 a.m. every day, I meet with my leadership team and then at 9:30 a.m., I have a sales meeting. From there it varies in so many ways – customer interactions, meetings, shooting commercials, recording radio spots and, most importantly, closing deals. Nothing happens until we sell a car. I try to hit the gym one more time to swim laps, although I do not always have the energy.
Of the outdoor activities you are involved in, which would you say are your favorites?
That’s a hard one. I really love being on my bike. Cycling gives me such a sense of freedom. It reminds me of being a kid. We would ride for hours and come home feeling like conquerors or explorers. Hiking would be my second favorite. I love being out in the peace of nature. I really want to learn to rock climb as well.
