The twisted mentality of terrorists was on display recently after Israel’s successful preliminary tests of a missile defense shield against rockets fired into Israel from the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.
Soon after Israel’s announcement of the results of the tests, terrorists in Gaza launched a barrage of mortar rounds and at least one rocket into Israel.
Shortly thereafter, a Hamas official hinted that his terrorist organization might resume deadly suicide bombings inside Israel if the missile shield proves successful at stopping terrorist rockets. Hamas “can adjust to any new circumstances,” he told The Associated Press.
Not everyone in the Gaza Strip is a terrorist, but the unrelenting hatred of Israel by those who are makes it hard to see much hope for endless “peace talks” in the region.
Barring an unlikely turn by the terrorists toward rational behavior — which would be in their own best interests as well as the best interests of Palestinians and Israelis — Israel has little choice but to pursue defensive measures and to strike back when it is attacked.
