McCallie School wrestler T.J. Duncan already is on a plateau with Tennessee’s best.
He is a four-time state champion with 150-plus wins and a college scholarship in hand, and he can become the state’s first five-time gold medalist.
If he manages the feat, Duncan will leave behind Notre Dame’s Martin Francis, the state’s first four-time titlist, and the other four-time winners: Montgomery Bell Academy’s Phillip Simpson, Baylor’s Jordan Leen and Bailey Whitaker, Bradley Central’s Matt Keller and McCallie’s Ryan Scott.
“It’s my dream, but life isn’t going to end if I don’t make it,” the Blue Tornado senior said.
“When he first came here he would literally hide – take off – and we couldn’t find him,” McCallie coach Gordon Connell remembered. “That first month at school I literally didn’t know if he was going to be around.”
