An all-female cast will present “Love, Loss and What I Wore” on Saturday, March 9, which compares a woman’s wardrobe to a time capsule of memorable points and relationships in a woman’s life.

The one-night-only performance at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre will begin at 8 p.m. The CTC is located at 400 River St.

Five well-known members of the community will present this play by Nora and Delia Ephron.

Alice Lupton Smith, a veteran of the CTC stage, is cast as the narrator, Gingy. Joining her will be Lakweshia Ewing, Becki Jordan, Alison Lebovitz and Kristina Montague.

The reader’s theatre play consists of 28 interwoven stories that try to illuminate female identity. Through a series of humorous and often poignant monologues, the actresses share their characters’ stories, exploring themes of relationships, oppression, loss of loved ones, divorce, sexuality and the fullness of life – all through the metaphor of the characters’ love/hate relationship with clothes.

Each actress will play a variety of characters, transitioning between ages, accents and attitudes. With monologues about first-date outfits, lucky underwear, prom dresses, buying bras, favorite boots, wedding dresses, miniskirts, the little black dress, the disorganized purse and nightmare experiences in the dressing room, recollections prompt the women’s memories about their mothers, boyfriends, husbands, ex-husbands and more.

Notable tales revolve around the influence of Madonna (“Any woman under 40 who says she’s never dressed as Madonna is either lying or Amish”) and mothers’ taste in clothes (“I don’t understand, you could look so good if you tried.”).

The show is rated R for mature language and themes.

Tickets are $50 for this fundraiser, which includes wine, hors d’oeuvres and dessert bites catered by the Mountain City Club.
