Protecting our eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays is crucial, and thanks to transition lenses, it is also easy.
“All patients can benefit from Transitions lenses,” said Candace Davis with Complete Eye Care. “With Transitions being so diverse, meaning different options available, there is a Transitions lens out there that fits everyone’s needs.”
According to transitions.com, UV rays, glare and eye fatigue are challenges the eyes face daily. Wearing Transitions lenses, which adapt to changing light, can help patients protect their eyes from all three of these potentially harmful challenges.
Transition lenses contain silver halide, which when introduced to UV causes the lens to change from a standard clear lens to something shaded like traditional sunglasses. With ordinary clear lenses the eyes have to constantly adjust to changing light. Pupils constrict which makes the eyes squint.
This may not seem like a big deal, but over the course of the day it can all add up to lots of eyestrain and fatigue. Transitions lenses filter the light so that the eyes don’t have to work as hard, allowing them to stay relaxed and comfortable throughout the day.
Options available include Transitions Signature VII, the latest and greatest technology in transitions, available in grey, brown, and graphite green. It is the clearest Transitions lens available, and turns quickly when going outside, then turns back to clear the quickest when going indoors.
Transitions Vantage offers variable polarization and are available in grey. Transitions Xtractive, the darkest transition available, keeps a slight tint all the time, but is the only transition lens that turns 50 percent dark behind the windshield of a vehicle. They are available in grey and brown, Davis noted.
“There are some limitations depending on the lens power, if the lens is a lined bifocal, or lens material that would prevent the option for Transitions,” she shared. “However, Transitions are something that everyone should consider. They block out 100% of the UVA and UVB rays. Parents should consider transitions for their children, and anyone that has light sensitivity, macular degeneration, glaucoma, or any medical problems should consider Transitions.”
The Optical Shop at Complete Eye Care has special offers on all their lenses, including Transitions. Prices vary depending on the type of material and if the lens is single vision or bifocal. Also, if you have insurance that covers your lenses, that may play a role as well.
The professionals at Complete Eye Care are available Monday Friday to assist you with all your eye care needs. Walk-ins are welcome should a patient find themselves in an emergency situation. The optical shop is open to the public, and you don’t need an appointment to stop by and you can bring in your outside prescription for glasses and/or contact lenses. They have a variety of frames and contact lens options that fit every budget, need and style.
