New trail runners and veteran road runners can hone their skills during Enterprise South Nature Park’s new Rock/Creek 10k June 11.
The majority of the park’s trails are smooth and winding, making it the perfect location for those inexperienced with the unique challenges of trail running, said Brian Costillow, a part of the local Rock/Creek team organizing the inaugural event.
While the race focuses on the smooth, non-technical trails located in the Nature Park, it is open to anyone, and everyone is encouraged to participate, he said. There will also be a 1.5-mile kids race open to elementary-school-age runners.
“Our race participants have asked for some shorter distance trail races,” said Costillow. “We listened and have added this race to our trail race series for 2016. Come be a part of this first annual event.”
On top of providing new racing routes for participants, the 10k will showcase the many great trails located in the park.
“This is yet another green spaces park in the Chattanooga area that is easily accessible and offers miles of well-maintained trail and, as such, an ideal location for both an introduction to and a shorter distance trail run,” he said.
Proceeds from the 10k will benefit Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association, a group which constructs and maintains the trails at Enterprise South.
The cost to participate in the new 10k is $30. The kids race costs $10.
