“Our goal is to raise money for an Alaskan mission trip to help start a church,” said NSBC director of youth and missions Robin Legg. “Alaska is considered the least churched state in the United States. We hope to get the funding so that anyone the Lord wants to go will be able to go.”
The tournament will also help send New Salem’s Tanner Linz to the Dominican Republic with SCORE International in 2011.
Lupton City Golf tournament coordinator Junior Johnson said the benefit tournament will be four-man select shot and cost $40 per person per day of the tournament. Golfers can play as many days as they choose to participate. Prizes will be awarded through chipping and putting competitions as well as restaurant meal gift cards to the first-, second- and third-place teams.
“Golfers will play nine holes two times making it an 18-hole tournament,” said Johnson. “Teams can pick a tee time throughout the week to play. I am hoping to enroll 40 golfers, so 10 teams.”
He said the tournament needs sponsors for holes on the course and for teams. Johnson estimates that the tournament will take golfers four hours to complete. The tournament will conclude Oct. 16 with a cookout for golfers at New Salem Baptist Church at 4 p.m. in the Unity Building. To contact Johnson for tee times, call 645-5304.
