The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) crime lab results indicate a mixture of two synthetic opioids are linked to the mass overdoses reported in Georgia, where more than a dozen overdoses have been reported.
One of the two drugs is consistent with a new fentanyl analogue, according to the GBI.
The fentanyl analogue has not previously been identified by the GBI crime lab.
Testing to confirm the full identity of the drug will take more time.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia Department of Public Health, Georgia Poison Center, hospitals, local, state, and federal partners are working jointly on this investigation.
