Local GOP: Stop shooting your own

Since 1982, I have worked in campaigns and seen the good, the bad and the ugly. But I have never seen the Republican Party as it is now! Our Hamilton County Republicans are shooting their own!

What has happened between Tim Boyd and Brent Lambert is not the first time political bullying and set-ups have played out. No, the party’s split is due to the mindset “us” against “them.”

Now, a self-seeking, power-grabbing group is dividing the party with lies and negativity. I, personally, have been attacked and threatened to have my character and future undermined.

Claude Ramsey, Bill Bennett and Bobby Wood are good people who were previously elected because they sought to serve the people. Bo Watson, Gerald McCormick, Mike Carter and Randy Fairbanks are similar public servants.

I trust Democrats Terry Lee and Joe Boshears more than I do some in my party because they are trustworthy! Honesty and integrity are not just Republican virtues.

It is time our local Republicans put selfishness and evil ways aside. We must be united and find public servants who have a heart to serve the people. And we must stop shooting our own!

Hedrick continues line of good judges

Kyle Hedrick has my vote as the next Hamilton County Circuit Court judge. Great judges anywhere across our nation share certain characteristics: They are prepared for their cases, they are willing to listen, and they treat everyone in their courtrooms with fairness and with respect.

I’ve known Kyle professionally for a good number of years, both while I practiced law and since then, and know he has the right combination to serve this county well as our next judge. He is courteous, respectful, thoughtful, prepared and a man of his word.

He is also patient, kind and has a good sense of humor. All of those qualities, wrapped up in one person, make for a great judge. Add the breadth and depth of his experience in all sorts of cases over his lengthy law career, and you have a stellar judge.

He has big shoes to fill – we have been fortunate in Hamilton County to have a truly great bench at all levels. With his experience, personality and work ethic, Kyle Hedrick has a lot to offer and will continue the long tradition in our community of great judges.

Catherine White ‘best of the best’

I am writing on behalf of Catherine “Cate” White in support of her campaign for Circuit Court judge. I am retired from Sequoyah TVA nuclear plant in Soddy-Daisy, near Chattanooga. I have known Catherine White for several years.

She is a bright, shining light in the judicial area of our everyday society. Catherine is the “best of the best” when it concerns taking care of her clients. I can attest to this, because I saw the results when she helped obtain my daughter’s divorce and my friend’s divorce. Catherine is a person of integrity and the highest principles and morals.

Catherine is a devoted mother to her two children, a son and a daughter. She is a dedicated lawyer and citizen of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee, and the United States of America. She is the daughter of Marcia Cate, Channel 9’s first female weather forecaster, and the late Forrest Cate Jr., former owner of Forrest Cate Ford in Chattanooga.

With the knowledge she has concerning the judicial system, she is the best choice for the position of judge in Circuit Court, Division IV.
