KNOXVILLE – There aren’t too many times in football players’ careers that they are accused of thinking too much, but Tennessee coach Derek Dooley said that of his starting quarterback, Matt Simms, in the second quarter.
“I think Matt did a good job early,” Dooley said. “Then in the second quarter, we went into a lull offensively. Matt got a little out of rhythm worrying about his checks and throws.”
Simms was unable to hook up most notably with Luke Stocker three times in the second quarter. The All-SEC tight end broke across the middle in the second quarter and had a ball thrown over his head in the end zone. Stocker also had a pass just beyond his outstretched arms on second-and-8 from the Vols’ 49-yard line.
