A suspect has been arrested in a Tuesday shooting that left a man wounded in Dalton, Ga., police said.

Thomas Kyle Williams, 34, faces multiple charges, Dalton Police Department spokesman Bruce Frazier said in a news release.

The victim, Dennis Richard Green, was shot in the abdomen and has been released from the hospital, Frazier said.

Police were called to the intersection of Tyler Street and Chattanooga Road around 2:30 am Tuesday.

Green, 42, said an “older muscle car” had passed by him and he thought he heard a vehicle backfiring. Then he realized he’d been shot, Frazier said.

Investigators found Green’s story didn’t add up, and learned the shooting took place at a house on Luckie Street after Green and Williams argued, possible about drugs, Frazier said.

A search turned up a .380-caliber handgun and other evidence.

Williams is charged with aggravated assault with a gun, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and possession of methamphetamine.

Another man, 34-year old Jason Freeman, who was at the Luckie Street house was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

Frazier said the incident is still being investigated and further charges are possible.
