Baylor School’s Ellie Waldrep is one of 48 girls from throughout the nation chosen to take part in USA Swimming’s national select camp Oct. 10-13 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. And Baylor assistant coach Laura Pitman will be there as part of the seven-person girls’ camp staff.
Also Baylor swimming’s director of operations, she will be the head manager. This will be Pitman’s second time on an USA Swimming elite camp staff in the past year. “This is a great opportunity for Ellie,” Baylor head coach Dan Flack said in a school release.
“At a camp of this level, Ellie will be exposed to a wide range of information that can really help in her preparation as she transitions to a national level competitor. This camp is for those athletes who are on the cusp of representing the United States in international competition.”
The event is for girls who were ages 14-16 when they swam invitation-worthy times from Sept. 1, 2018, to Aug. 31, 2019. Waldrep’s was 1:02.01 in the 100 backstroke.
Flack said he is “super pumped for Coach Pitman to once again be out at the Olympic Training Center working with and learning from the best in the business. This is the 15th time that USA Swimming has either asked for Baylor Swim Club coaches or used the Baylor School facilities for one of their signature camps and international teams.”
