Kitchen fire stopped from escalating in Ooltewah

A grease fire caused heavy damage to the kitchen of an Ooltewah area home on Wednesday, but firefighters were able to extinguish it before it escalated to the rest of the home.

The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department responded at roughly 7 p.m. to a house fire at 9715 Waycross Circle, Amy Maxwell, a spokeswoman for Hamilton County Emergency Services, said in a release.

Firefighters did a “very aggressive interior attack in the kitchen area,” which stopped the fire from spreading to the rest of the house, said Teddy Rogers, fire chief of the volunteer department.

Smoke damaged the rest of the house, but those portions are salvageable, he said.

There were no injuries reported from the fire.
