Paving necessary to maintain road

With respect to the article published in the Times Free Press on June 10 relative to the paving of Highway 127 on Signal Mountain, I would like to apologize to TDOT and Commissioner Schrorer for my poor choice of words. I intended to convey to the author of the story that it was a shame to have to spend money on paving rather than on a long-term solution to address major improvements.

But, paving is among the actions necessary to properly maintain the road until a long-term solution can be determined and funded, and that is likely to take many years.

TDOT has always been very supportive of and responsive to the needs of our community, and I appreciate that support and look forward to seeing the results of the Arcadis study for long-range improvements to Highway 127.

Soddy-Daisy tax restraint needed

I want to complain about the tax raise our Soddy-Daisy city manager and commissioners are putting on us. We have a lot of elderly people here on fixed income. Most live on Social Security alone. We haven’t had a raise in two years and won’t get one this year.

We lost the one commissioner who fought to keep us from getting a tax increase, Mr. Privett. I know, I’ve been there.

They want to help the more fortunate and get their revenue. Think about the elderly, you commissioners. Please give us a break. We vote, too.

Thank you, Chattanooga Times Free Press, for giving us the time to speak out.

MR. AND MRS. LLOYD D. JOHNSEN
