Player: Garrett Baugh

The Tennessee Tech signee from Ooltewah had his season cut short when he was hit by a batted ball while in the Owls’ dugout and suffered two skull fractures. He was 5-0 on the mound and had not given up an earned run. He played first base when not pitching and wound up with a .432 average, four home runs, 14 doubles, 32 runs scored and 28 RBIs. “He was definitely our leader, maybe the heart and soul of the team,” Owls coach Brian Hitchcox said. “I only got to coach him two years, but he was always ready when it was his time. He could cut up and play, but at game time he was all business. If he comes back completely from the injury – and I have no reason to think he won’t – Tennessee Tech is getting a steal. He can be a conference starter. His velocity jumped, and he had four pitches he could consistently throw for strikes.”
