DUNLAP, Tenn. – While nearly letting Bledsoe County back in the thick of things, the Sequatchie County defense stood tall to secure the “Stump” for a seventh straight year.

Already with a drive-halting interception, sophomore safety Levin Knight lowered the boom on a third-down stop, and fellow second-year linebacker Ashton Osnes followed with a sack to give the Indians the ball back with more than five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Sequatchie County ran the clock out from there for a 21-14 rivalry win as storms held off Friday night. The host Indians ran for more than 200 yards in the game, the start of which was delayed by lightning.

“Our defense really played well and won this game for us,” Sequatchie coach Mark Wattenbarger said. “This is a gritty, tough group and they made big plays when they had to tonight. If I didn’t have gray hair, I do now because we let them make it too close of a game.”

After missing the past three games, another sophomore showed leadership beyond his years as quarterback Austin McCurry provided major blows to the visitors.
