Georgia fifth-year senior receiver Malcolm Mitchell has compiled 116 career catches with the Bulldogs, 1,485 career receiving yards, one torn anterior cruciate ligament and one children’s book titled “The Magician’s Hat.”

Mitchell was toting a copy of his book last month at SEC media days, and it was released earlier this month. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder from Valdosta was a recent guest of “Press Row” on Chattanooga’s ESPN 105.1 FM.

Q: Do you get asked more about football or your off-the-field endeavors?

A: “I always used to get asked about my health and how I’m feeling, or how the team is looking or the book club that I’m in, but I think my book kind of caught people by surprise.”

Down to two?

Georgia could be down to a two-man race at quarterback based on how the candidates have lined up the past two days in the portion of practice that has been open to the media. In Monday’s practice, Greyson Lambert lined up with the first team, Brice Ramsey the second team and Faton Bauta the third team. On Tuesday, Ramsey took first-team snaps, followed by Lambert, with Bauta on the third team for a second straight day. The Bulldogs practiced two hours Tuesday in full pads, and coach Mark Richt is scheduled to address the media following today’s practice.— David Paschall

Q: Given the injuries and position switches in your career, how much internal pressure do you have this season?

A: “There’s no pressure. The one thing about football is that I want to feel like I did when I was younger. Football is an opportunity and not a necessity, and I want to keep it that way. I want to go out there and have fun.

“That’s when I play my best football, and that’s what I want to do this season.”

Q: What is your assessment of the quarterback race?

A: “I believe each and every quarterback has the potential to win the job. There are things that only the offensive coordinator can see that I don’t have the ability to see that will define who wins that job. When I’m out there running routes, I think there are great passes from each and every one of them.

“I’m pretty sure there are little fundamental things that this could come down to, but just looking at them, you would think that they all deserve a starting spot at Division I schools.”

Q: Turning to our rapid fire, what is your favorite on-field moment of your Georgia career?

A: “Watching Todd Gurley hurdling that guy (Tennessee safety Brian Randolph). I know that had nothing to do with me, but that was pretty impressive.”

Q: What is your favorite cartoon?

A: “SpongeBob.”

Q: Where is your favorite place to play in the SEC other than Sanford Stadium?

A: “I like the big stadiums. I hope I don’t get in trouble for this, but even though I’m not a fan of the Tennessee orange, their stadium is huge. That’s a really great place to play.”

Q: You had a great game there as a freshman, didn’t you?

A: “Yeah, but I got hurt there, too.”

Q: How do you best describe Valdosta football?

A: “Titletown, U.S.A.”

Q: What’s your go-to movie?

A: “The Dark Knight.”
