The leg lamp. The bunny suit. The infamous tongue on a frozen flagpole. And certainly the Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle.
A Christmas Story is a holiday classic most of us know and love, and can probably quote scene by scene. Although you may have seen it more times than you can count, this year the comedy is coming to Chattanooga in a whole new way.
Chattanooga Theatre Center will be performing the Tony award nominated A Christmas Story: The Musical December 6-22, bringing to life all of those funny moments from the movie in song.
“This is the Gene Shepherd story that was made into a film in the ’80s and has become sort of a perennial favorite,” says George Quick, executive director of the Chattanooga Theatre Centre. “Last year they made a Broadway musical out of it, and this is the first Christmas since then that anyone will be doing it outside of New York. It’s a favorite story for some people, so it’s got the excitement of something new and the comfort of something old.”
Because the rights to A Christmas Story: The Musical were just recently made available, Chattanoogans have the unique opportunity of being the first in the area to see this show.
“It’s a really fun holiday show with something for the whole family-and it’s a musical to boot,” says Quick. “There is some new music in this show that I think will become holiday favorites for people in years to come.”
