Gov. Sonny Perdue said at a news conference today that he will recommend $300 million in the upcoming budget in general obligations bonds for a statewide transportation plan.
The transportation plan includes a proposal for regional transportation funding and $300 million allotted each year for 10 years, making the entire plan a $3 billion proposal.
“This will put people to work while it gets people to work,” the governor said.
If approved, voters in each regional planning district would vote on regional funding for their district in 2012, according to the governor’s proposal.
