CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Mentoring young people makes a difference, but more mentors are needed, Desmond Wellington said.
“Every day there are youngsters who need positive role models, someone to walk with them in the journey of life,” said Mr. Wellington, youth development director for the Bridging the Gap mentoring program.
His goal is to attract more mentors into Bridging the Gap, a program of the Bradley Initiative for Church and Community.
Mr. Wellington is hosting the 2010 Outstanding Mentor Awards ceremony at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland today to honor nine mentors.
His agency is among those across the nation seeking to bring attention to the need for mentors during January, which President Barack Obama proclaimed National Mentoring Month.
