Voters on Thursday selected Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam from a field of five as the Republican nominee for governor of Tennessee.
In the showdown general election in November, Mr. Haslam will face Democrat nominee Mike McWherter. Mr. McWherter comfortably had no opposition in his party primary.
Fine Congressman Zach Wamp, of Chattanooga, ran second in the Republican primary, followed by Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey of Blountville.
Mayor Haslam has been an able mayor in Knoxville. He is a gentleman of excellent character, sound leadership and obvious ability.
We enthusiastically recommend the election of Bill Haslam for governor of Tennessee in the November general election.
