No unity until Trump is gone and more letters to the editors

Letters to the Editor
Letters to the Editor Letters to the Editor

In response to the letter to the editor of April 10, “Remember the Power of Unity in America,” I had to think this was very hypocritical. I am sure this person was not calling for unity when President Obama was in office. The Republicans tried their best to knock down any good thing President Obama was trying to accomplish. Unity goes both ways. Not just when your choice is in office. And, when the comments spoke of selfishness, jealousy, hatefulness and being power hungry, who does that best describe but the phony president we have today.

Trump and all who have drunk the Trump Kool-Aid should know that he will never have the decency and integrity of Obama’s legacy. Also, we had to hear the Republicans whine for eight years, and now they are whining because the Democrats are not happy. I can only tell you this, I am a person who votes candidate, not party. I do not believe in being a wing nut, but I can also tell you this, for me personally, I will keep on complaining until that imposter is out of the White House!

Our vets deserve better punctuation

The 2019 Four Bridges Art Festival was once again a premier display of art that the city is rightfully proud to host. But there was a stumble this year, a slight to our veterans that should not be repeated. At the entrance to the festival venue, there was a sign displaying the festival sponsors by level of sponsorship: Walnut Bridge (for top tier), Market Street Bridge (for second tier), Olgiati Bridge (for third tier), and, dead last, Veteran’s (sic) Bridge for bottom tier. To compound the slight, the prominently displayed overhead sign omitted Veterans Bridge altogether. Come on, festival organizers! Chattanooga loves and respects its veterans.

God’s plan for America? Really?

In his op-ed on April 13 (“How to Break the Republican Lock on God”), Timothy Egan details how evangelical Christians assert that the Trump presidency is part of God’s plan for America. Really? Is there a divine plan in place that God is making sure we follow? Then maybe we should ask why God took the life of Antonin Scalia while Barack Obama was president. Did Mitch McConnell commit sacrilegious blasphemy and thwart God’s plan to put Garland Merrick on the Supreme Court? Will Mitch McConnell burn in hell?

Hart’s humor doesn’t amuse; he’s not funny

Can someone suggest to your Chattanooga Free Press “op-ed humorist” Ron Hart to focus on the op-ed part of his job and drop the humorist shtick? He’s not funny. I can tolerate and appreciate his libertarian commentary but his pathetic attempts at humor are horrible. Most of his tacked on jokes are flat and forced. Take out the jokes and his commentary isn’t that bad. Look at just his jokes and you wonder if an immature high schooler wrote his material. He reminds me of Bill Maher – another unfunny person who thinks he’s funny.

If you can’t convince him to drop the humorist act at least replace his picture in the paper with a troll. Then readers will know what they’re in for.
