Drew Viscomi’s soccer career at McCallie has included almost every honor imaginable.
But he won’t consider it complete unless one elusive honor – a state championship – can be added.
Viscomi, who’s entering his senior year of high school, was named a second-team All-American by national website TopDrawerSoccer.com. He’s the first McCallie player honored as an All-American since Arturo Rocha in 2012.
“It’s a huge honor,” Viscomi said Sunday. “It’s a blessing, but it’s definitely something I wouldn’t have been able to do without the help of Coach (Chris Cushenbery) and a great team. They made it pretty easy on me.”
He said that while being named an All-American is a “great feeling,” it would be empty if he were to leave McCallie without a state title. The Blue Tornado expect to return 10 of 11 starters and should be one of the favorites in Division II-AA in 2017 after reaching the state semifinals in 2016.
