Gary Johnson deserves more media coverage and more letters to the editors

Johnson deserves more media coverage

In an election in which so many of the voters are unhappy with the Republican and Democratic candidates, I would expect that a viable third choice, Gary Johnson, a Libertarian, would get more coverage.

I am not endorsing him for president but believe that a lot of people would be interested to know his positions and perspectives on the issues. I expect that most voters have never heard of him, let alone know that he is a successful two-term governor and a candidate in all 50 states.

Can you help us know more about this candidate so that we can make a fully informed decision?

Lone Oak benefits from yard sale efforts

The Lone Oak Community Civic League on Signal Mountain would like to thank the volunteers and businesses that made it possible to raise much needed operating funds during the recent Highway 127 Yard Sale. Several local businesses supported our efforts by donating supplies during this event. We would like to thank Food City on Signal Mountain Road, Bobby Brewer of Mountain Garden Center, Wal-Mart Supercenters in Dunlap and on Signal Mountain Road, Pruett’s Signal Mountain Market and Sam’s Club of Chattanooga.

The Lone Oak Community Center is home to many activities which benefit our community. This includes the Lone Oak Fire Department, Lone Oak Free Health and Dental clinics, weekly adult education class for those who want to obtain their high school equivalency diplomas, Lone Oak Library, Lone Oak Quilters, community gatherings and more.

Vendor space rentals and food sales are our primary fundraisers during the year. We could not continue our good work without the generosity of our volunteers, businesses and the 127 yard sale patrons who visit and dine at our facility. Thank you to all who supported us.

Have we become ‘a country lost’?

Two candidates running for the most important offices in the world, each besmirched with their own problems. Neither has a life worth praising, to say nothing of trusting them with decisions which can wreck this country.

Our current president has done his work alienating both black and white Americans, paying little attention to the horrors in our cities, disrespecting our police forces, too busy with golf games and trips to spend any time with our lives.

Young women wearing clothes (very few), showing off their bosoms, behinds, bellies, swollen with their fiances’ children and proud to do so! Where have ethics, modesty, dignity, respect for America gone when we are so low class as to flaunt these personal things to the whole world? What must other countries think of us? Do we care?

I grieve for an America I once loved and was proud to be part of. How far down do we go before we become a country lost?

Hateful rhetoric is depressing

It seems that many of your writers have really ramped up recent commentary more as we get closer to election.

Yes, we have the constant hate for Hillary, President Obama, abortion issues and transgender folks who only want to use the bathroom without discrimination.

Yet, we hear far less about this guy that the Right has taken to who is not only way over the top but clearly unstable. He called Hillary “crooked” and makes up ludicrous lies almost daily.

Yes, I do lean liberal. At the same time I am not comfortable with Hillary and her many flaws. That said, those of you who are comfortable with Trump might want to be careful about what you wish for, because if it comes to pass, it would likely not be pretty.

And for the writer from Georgia who wrote that nasty letter and piled on the transgender people with hateful rhetoric, well, that was a truly sad statement to read. And it reeked of bigotry, intolerance and likely ignorance as well. Surely we should be better than this. If not, then may God please help us all!
