Things I wish

How many resumés?

Editor’s note: Barry Courter has a 26-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 22-year-old daughter who is a college senior. Each week he poses a question he wishes they would ask.

Q: I’m about to graduate from college, how many resumés should I send out?

A: I could be entirely wrong, but I’d use the time you might spend updating, copying and mailing resumés on talking with friends, family and people you know in career areas that you are interested in. That way, you can find out what might be available. Use those people and that information to target a job you want. Call and ask if you can send a resumé or better yet, talk face to face.
