December set a new deficit record

We have become so familiar with warnings about trillion-dollar annual federal government deficits that most people take a ho-hum attitude toward our national debt.

Now it has been reported that last month the federal government hit a new December record for adding to the national debt.

The Treasury Department said that in just December, the federal government spent $91.85 billion more than the government took in.

Who in Washington — the president, our senators, our representatives and others — really seem to be very concerned?

We’ve been running in the red so long, and so much, that many of our officials, and the rest of us, seem to accept it without much concern.

Our total national debt is more than $12.1 trillion — that’s “trillion”! So what?

We have to pay a lot of taxes to cover just the interest on that borrowed money, as we go deeper in debt.

Do you believe our taxes are “too low”? We think our taxes are too high. The problem is that government spending is far out of control, with too many officials trying to buy our votes with borrowed money.

Are we suckers, or what?
