The third State of Dade Heritage Festival begins tonight in Trenton, Ga., with food, fun and music taking place around the historic courthouse square. Hours for “Welcome Back to Dade County” are 5:30-10 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
The cultural celebration includes a multitribe Indian powwow, Battle of the Bands, dual sport poker run, motorcycle and antique tractor shows, children’s games, inflatables, dancing and arts and crafts vendors.
The Dade County Public Library, 102 Court St., will have a “Did You Know?” history booth set up for a scavenger hunt around the square for a chance to win prizes. Staff and volunteers also will record visitors’ personal accounts of Trenton history for a DVD.
After the festival, visitors can do a little shopping. This year’s festival has been scheduled to coincide with the 12th annual Antique Alley, which stretches along Highway 11 from Mississippi to Virginia.
