CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The base of a statue memorializing the World War I doughboy has been relocated as restoration efforts continue.
The granite base has been transferred from the Clarksville Armory on Fort Campbell Boulevard to the city’s Transit System center.
According to The Leaf-Chronicle, the statue is to be rededicated April 15.
At some point, the statue’s head was damaged beyond repair and the body was not maintained. Sculptor Scott Wise is carving a new head and cleaning the body.
The base now sits in a space formerly occupied by a fountain. The city of Clarksville will be adding soil and landscaping around it.
