Oscar Hurley, 97, is slowly losing his memory.
His mind for details, though, is still sharp. He remembers the date he reported for Navy duty: April 1, 1942.
But place names – such as Normandy – sometimes elude him, like objects in the dark.
Still, Hurley, who resides in an assisted living facility on Lee Highway, isn’t so afraid of losing his own memory. He’s more concerned about America losing the memories of all the people like him, members of the so-called Greatest Generation.
“So many things I remember, nobody seems to know about any more,” he said in an interview earlier this week.
