BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham authorities say a 69-year-old man has died nearly a month after he was stabbed during a robbery attempt while he was doing yard work.
Multiple news outlets report that the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office says Eddie Casmer Townsend was pronounced dead Friday at UAB Hospital.
Birmingham police say Townsend was stabbed May 6. They say he was doing yard work at his home when three young men walked up and demanded money. When Townsend threw up his hands and said he had nothing, police said they went through his pockets and one of them stabbed him three times in the abdomen. A passer-by found Townsend on his porch, shouting for help.
Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspects.
