Our Chattanooga community increasingly has proved in recent years that this is a wonderful place to assure economic success for new businesses and industries — creating thousands of good, new local jobs.
We think immediately, of course, of the new, $1 billion Volkswagen plant. VW will hire more than 2,000 people to make thousands of good midsize Volkswagens at our Enterprise South industrial park.
Happily, there are several other new businesses — large and small — that have recognized the advantages of Chattanooga and its people, and are adding many other new jobs here, fostering our economic success.
Now we are excited because Amazon.com is considering establishment of large distribution facilities in Hamilton County and adjacent Bradley County.
Amazon is the world’s largest Internet retailer. It could provide nearly 1,500 full-time local jobs, with employment growing to about 3,900 people as temporary jobs are added in seasonal “rush” periods.
