Ask A Dietitian

Q: I’m always looking for healthy snacks for my kids. Do you have some suggestions?

A: Besides being fun to eat, snacks help prevent low blood sugar levels and provide energy between meals. Here are a few suggestions:

* 3 cups light, butter-flavored popcorn;

* 1/2 cup low-fat pudding;

* Mini pizza: 1/2 English muffin, 2 tablespoons pizza sauce and 1/4 cup light cheese;

* 1 ice fruit pop;

* 2 tablespoons salsa and 10 tortilla chips;

* 1/2 cup sherbert;

* 3 graham cracker squares with 1 tablespoon peanut butter;

* 1 fruit roll-up;

* 4-ounce individual fruit cup;

* 5 vanilla wafers.
