CLEVELAND (AP) – Indians starter Carlos Carrasco could miss six weeks because of a strained left hamstring, a significant blow to Cleveland’s staff.
Carrasco got hurt while covering first base in the third inning of his start Sunday in Detroit. He returned to Cleveland for an MRI, which the team said revealed a moderate strain. The right-hander, who had a breakout 2015 with 14 wins, will be out for at least one month.
Trevor Bauer is expected to fill in while Carrasco recovers.
Cleveland also activated star outfielder Michael Brantley, who had been on the disabled list since the start of the season after right shoulder surgery in October. Brantley recently made two minor league rehab appearances.
The 28-year-old Brantley will make his season debut in Minnesota, where he injured his shoulder trying to make a diving catch on Sept. 22.
